The scale gap
Activist organizations and corporate interests are not playing the same game, and they are not playing it at the same size. Every figure here counts direct PAC contributions from outside interests to sitting members of Congress across the 2024 and 2026 cycles, $649.2M in all. Leadership PACs, member-to-member transfers and party committees are excluded as internal money; see the methodology.
The bars above are drawn to scale against each other. The ideological figure spans the whole spectrum at once (gun rights and gun control, anti-abortion and abortion rights, climate and industry-aligned groups alike), so it measures the size of the argument, not the strength of any side in it. The ideology page takes it apart. The bar here leaves out AIPAC, which at $7.9M is listed on its own rather than folded into a category it would dominate; the ideology page counts it back in, which is why its total is the larger of the two. Either way the gap stays a matter of multiples.
Every sector, by money given
Why business money has no famous PAC
Concentration works differently on each side, and this table is where it shows. The largest single PAC in Congress is AIPAC, and the largest business PAC is the Realtors. Both are broken out on their own above precisely because they are outliers. Below them, business money is spread thin across 4,566 committees, so no corporate PAC has to look dominant for business as a whole to be. Labor is the opposite shape: fewer PACs, each much larger, which makes union money far more visible than its total warrants.
